Northwest Lower Peninsula
Harbor Springs: A couple lake trout were caught around Harbor Point. The fish were hitting on spin-glo’s between 90 feet down and the bottom in over 120 feet.
Petoskey: Boat anglers are looking for salmon however most averaged less than one per boat as there are not a lot of them in the area. The few caught seemed to be scattered between 50 and over 100 feet down. Try spoons, flies and meat rigs. Lake trout were caught 80 to 90 feet down. Pier anglers caught smallmouth on worms and body baits. Water levels in the Bear River were still on the low side.
Charlevoix: Lake trout were suspended and caught anywhere from 60 to 90 feet down on spoons and spin-glo’s. The temperature break had moved deeper. In the channel, smallmouth bass and freshwater drum were caught with real or artificial worms and leeches along the bottom.

Traverse City: A couple Chinook salmon were caught in the East Bay when trolling along the south bank in the evening. Lake trout were caught when trolling out from the M-37 launch, Deepwater Point, off Elk Rapids or when jigging off Old Mission. Bass were caught in deep water. The Elk River remains slow with only a few smallmouths caught up near the dam. In the West Bay, a few Chinook were caught at the south end in early morning. Lake trout were caught south of Power Island, along the west bank south of the M-22 launch and along the east bank north of Bryant Park. Small perch were caught around Lee Point and south of the M-22 launch. Bass were found in deep water around the island. The Boardman remains slow, but a couple nice pike were caught recently. Look for smallmouth or rock bass near the mouth.
Frankfort: Large Chinook salmon fill the cleaning station as several angler’s report fish 30 pounds plus caught in the area. Most were trolling the top 80 feet in 140 to 170 feet with meat rigs. Lake trout were taken off the bottom with spin-glo’s at the Six-Mile Hole.

Arcadia: Boat anglers were getting one to three Chinook salmon per trip and some of the fish were over 20 pounds. They were found 40 to 80 feet down in 100 to 150 feet out in front of the harbor. A mix of spoons, flashers and flies as well as meat rigs worked best.
Onekama: Those fishing the “Barrel” were working the top 65 feet for Chinook or bouncing the bottom for lake trout in 120 to 140 feet. Spoons and J-plugs worked best. Hot colors were greens and blues.
Portage Lake: Bass anglers reported good numbers of largemouth around structure or when working the drop-offs. Bluegills, rock bass and perch were still being caught.
Manistee: Surface water temperatures were about 72 degrees. Chinook salmon fishing continues to get better as angler activity and catch rates were both high. Big fish including a 32-pounder continue to be caught 50 to 100 feet down in 140 to 300 feet. Spoons, J-plugs and meat rigs worked best. A small number of steelhead and lake trout were also caught. Pier fishing was slow.
Manistee River: Is producing a fair to good number of smallmouth bass and pike. Below Tippy Dam, those fishing above or below the coffer dam caught the occasional summer steelhead but water temperatures are too warm.
Ludington: Chinook fishing here continues to get better with a good number of fish 30 pounds plus being caught. Most were 50 to 100 feet down in 130 to 300 feet and hitting on spoons, meat rigs and J-plugs.
Pere Marquette Lake: Chinook salmon were still being picked up in the channel and over near the river.
Pentwater: Fishing in front of the dunes has been slow, but those fishing the south side of Little Sable Point caught Chinook, steelhead, and lake trout 40 to 70 feet down in 80 to 150 feet with meat rigs followed by green or blue spoons and flies.
Pentwater Lake: Large and smallmouth bass were caught in eight to 12 feet while jigging white soft-plastics or casting body baits along the drop-offs. Those fishing off Longbridge Road can still find bullhead, sunfish and bass when drifting or fishing on the bottom with crawlers and red worms.
